Do you know there are several types of access? Let's figure it out together!
  1. Closed Access: articles are available by subscription.
    Copyright: usually owned by the publisher.
  1. Open Access: articles can be read, viewed and downloaded - for free!
    The idea of free access to knowledge.
  1. Hybrid Access: Combines open and closed access: some articles are available for free, and some are available only by subscription.
    Copyright: determined by the ethics of the publication. Copyright can belong to both authors and editors.
  1. Embargoed Access: this is when articles are initially available only by subscription (closed access), but after a certain period (embargoed) they become open to everyone.
    Copyright: as in mixed access, determined by the publication's ethics.
  1. Early Access: access that allows to read new scientific articles even before their official publication (publications have not yet been assigned a volume, issue, pages), allowing to stay abreast of the latest research!
    Copyright: usually rests with article authors, authors may distribute their work under various licenses, however specific terms depend on journal policy.
